about us

chris miller design evolved from a love of pattern and a desire to utilise waste materials to make beautifully crafted, visually exciting and functional items. Our handmade British parquet furniture is a celebration of the intrinsic linear ‘grain’ of plywood on edge, each piece is bespoke, with pattern and colour dependent on the available waste materials.

Process

The small pieces that make up the parquet pattern ensure that even the smallest scraps of waste materials can be utilised.  Scraps of waste birch plywood are meticulously and precisely cut into individual blocks to make the component parts of the pattern.  Each of the individual blocks are then assembled by hand and glued together to form the intricate patterns, while larger scraps of laminated plywood are used tor legs.  Finally, the parquet surface is shaped, polished and finished with natural oils to give a smooth durable surface.
